١

نٓ وَالۡقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسۡطُرُوۡنَۙ‏

Nūn Wa Al-Qalami Wa Mā Yasţurūna

Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe

٢

مَا٘ اَنۡتَ بِنِعۡمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجۡنُوۡنٍۚ‏

Mā 'Anta Bini`mati Rabbika Bimajnūnin

You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman

٣

وَاِنَّ لَكَ لَاَجۡرًا غَيۡرَ مَمۡنُوۡنٍۚ‏

Wa 'Inna Laka La'ajrāan Ghayra Mamnūnin

And indeed, for you is a reward uninterrupted

٤

وَاِنَّكَ لَعَلٰي خُلُقٍ عَظِيۡمٍ

Wa 'Innaka La`alá Khuluqin `Ažīmin

And indeed, you are of a great moral character

٥

فَسَتُبۡصِرُ وَيُبۡصِرُوۡنَۙ‏

Fasatubşiru Wa Yubşirūna

So you will see and they will see

٦

بِاَيِّىكُمُ الۡمَفۡتُوۡنُ

Bi'ayyyikumu Al-Maftūnu

Which of you is the afflicted [by a devil]

٧

اِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَنۡ ضَلَّ عَنۡ سَبِيۡلِهٖࣕ وَهُوَ اَعۡلَمُ بِالۡمُهۡتَدِيۡنَ

Inna Rabbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đalla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bil-Muhtadīna

Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has gone astray from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided

٨

فَلَا تُطِعِ الۡمُكَذِّبِيۡنَ

Falā Tuţi`i Al-Mukadhibīna

Then do not obey the deniers

٩

وَدُّوۡا لَوۡ تُدۡهِنُ فَيُدۡهِنُوۡنَ

Wa Ddū Law Tud/hinu Fayud/hinūna

They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you]

١٠

وَلَا تُطِعۡ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِيۡنٍۙ‏

Wa Lā Tuţi` Kulla Ĥallāfin Mahīnin

And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer

١١

هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيۡمٍۙ‏

Hammāzin Mashā'in Binamīmin

[And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip

١٢

مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلۡخَيۡرِ مُعۡتَدٍ اَثِيۡمٍۙ‏

Mannā`in Lilkhayri Mu`tadin 'Athīmin

A preventer of good, transgressing and sinful

١٣

عُتُلٍّۭ بَعۡدَ ذٰلِكَ زَنِيۡمٍۙ‏

Utullin Ba`da Dhālika Zanīmin

Cruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender

١٤

اَنۡ كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَّبَنِيۡنَؕ‏

An Kāna Dhā Mālin Wa Banīna

Because he is a possessor of wealth and children

١٥

اِذَا تُتۡلٰي عَلَيۡهِ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِيۡرُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ

Idhā Tutlá `Alayhi 'Āyātunā Qāla 'Asāţīru Al-'Awwalīna

When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples

١٦

سَنَسِمُهٗ عَلَي الۡخُرۡطُوۡمِ

Sanasimuhu `Alá Al-Khurţūmi

We will brand him upon the snout

١٧

اِنَّا بَلَوۡنٰهُمۡ كَمَا بَلَوۡنَا٘ اَصۡحٰبَ الۡجَنَّةِۚ اِذۡ اَقۡسَمُوۡا لَيَصۡرِمُنَّهَا مُصۡبِحِيۡنَۙ‏

Innā Balawnāhum Kamā Balawnā 'Aşĥāba Al-Jannati 'Idh 'Aqsamū Layaşrimunnahā Muşbiĥīna

Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning

١٨

وَلَا يَسۡتَثۡنُوۡنَ

Wa Lā Yastathnūna

Without making exception

١٩

فَطَافَ عَلَيۡهَا طَآئِفٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَ وَهُمۡ نَآئِمُوۡنَ

Faţāfa `Alayhā Ţā'ifun Min Rabbika Wa Hum Nā'imūna

So there came upon the garden an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep

٢٠

فَاَصۡبَحَتۡ كَالصَّرِيۡمِۙ‏

Fa'aşbaĥat Kālşşarīmi

And it became as though reaped

٢١

فَتَنَادَوۡا مُصۡبِحِيۡنَۙ‏

Fatanādaw Muşbiĥīna

And they called one another at morning

٢٢

اَنِ اغۡدُوۡا عَلٰي حَرۡثِكُمۡ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ صٰرِمِيۡنَ

Ani Aghdū `Alá Ĥarthikum 'In Kuntum Şārimīna

[Saying], "Go early to your crop if you would cut the fruit

٢٣

فَانۡطَلَقُوۡا وَهُمۡ يَتَخَافَتُوۡنَۙ‏

Fānţalaqū Wa Hum Yatakhāfatūna

So they set out, while lowering their voices

٢٤

اَنۡ لَّا يَدۡخُلَنَّهَا الۡيَوۡمَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ مِّسۡكِيۡنٌۙ‏

An Lā Yadkhulannahā Al-Yawma `Alaykum Miskīnun

[Saying], "There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person

٢٥

وَّغَدَوۡا عَلٰي حَرۡدٍ قٰدِرِيۡنَ

Waghadaw `Alá Ĥardin Qādirīna

And they went early in determination, [assuming themselves] able

٢٦

فَلَمَّا رَاَوۡهَا قَالُوۡ٘ا اِنَّا لَضَآلُّوۡنَۙ‏

Falammā Ra'awhā Qālū 'Innā Lađāllūna

But when they saw it, they said, "Indeed, we are lost

٢٧

بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُوۡمُوۡنَ

Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmūna

Rather, we have been deprived

٢٨

قَالَ اَوۡسَطُهُمۡ اَلَمۡ اَقُلۡ لَّكُمۡ لَوۡلَا تُسَبِّحُوۡنَ

Qāla 'Awsaţuhum 'Alam 'Aqul Lakum Lawlā Tusabbiĥūna

The most moderate of them said, "Did I not say to you, 'Why do you not exalt [Allah]

٢٩

قَالُوۡا سُبۡحٰنَ رَبِّنَا٘ اِنَّا كُنَّا ظٰلِمِيۡنَ

Qālū Subĥāna Rabbinā 'Innā Kunnā Žālimīna

They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers

٣٠

فَاَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلٰي بَعۡضٍ يَّتَلَاوَمُوۡنَ

Fa'aqbala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatalāwamūna

Then they approached one another, blaming each other

٣١

قَالُوۡا يٰوَيۡلَنَا٘ اِنَّا كُنَّا طٰغِيۡنَ

Qālū Yā Waylanā 'Innā Kunnā Ţāghīna

They said, "O woe to us; indeed we were transgressors

٣٢

عَسٰي رَبُّنَا٘ اَنۡ يُّبۡدِلَنَا خَيۡرًا مِّنۡهَا٘ اِنَّا٘ اِلٰي رَبِّنَا رٰغِبُوۡنَ

Asá Rabbunā 'An Yubdilanā Khayrāan Minhā 'Innā 'Ilá Rabbinā Rāghibūna

Perhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous

٣٣

كَذٰلِكَ الۡعَذَابُؕ وَلَعَذَابُ الۡاٰخِرَةِ اَكۡبَرُۘ لَوۡ كَانُوۡا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَࣖ‏

Kadhālika Al-`Adhābu Wa La`adhābu Al-'Ākhirati 'Akbaru Law Kānū Ya`lamūna

Such is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew

٣٤

اِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ عِنۡدَ رَبِّهِمۡ جَنّٰتِ النَّعِيۡمِ

Inna Lilmuttaqīna `Inda Rabbihim Jannāti An-Na`īmi

Indeed, for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasure

٣٥

اَفَنَجۡعَلُ الۡمُسۡلِمِيۡنَ كَالۡمُجۡرِمِيۡنَؕ‏

Afanaj`alu Al-Muslimīna Kālmujrimīna

Then will We treat the Muslims like the criminals

٣٦

مَا لَكُمۡࣞ كَيۡفَ تَحۡكُمُوۡنَۚ‏

Mā Lakum Kayfa Taĥkumūna

What is [the matter] with you? How do you judge

٣٧

اَمۡ لَكُمۡ كِتٰبٌ فِيۡهِ تَدۡرُسُوۡنَۙ‏

Am Lakum Kitābun Fīhi Tadrusūna

Or do you have a scripture in which you learn

٣٨

اِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِيۡهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُوۡنَۚ‏

Inna Lakum Fīhi Lamā Takhayyarūna

That indeed for you is whatever you choose

٣٩

اَمۡ لَكُمۡ اَيۡمَانٌ عَلَيۡنَا بَالِغَةٌ اِلٰي يَوۡمِ الۡقِيٰمَةِۙ اِنَّ لَكُمۡ لَمَا تَحۡكُمُوۡنَۚ‏

Am Lakum 'Aymānun `Alaynā Bālighatun 'Ilá Yawmi Al-Qiyāmati 'Inna Lakum Lamā Taĥkumūna

Or do you have oaths [binding] upon Us, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you judge

٤٠

سَلۡهُمۡ اَيُّهُمۡ بِذٰلِكَ زَعِيۡمٌۚۛ‏

Salhum 'Ayyuhum Bidhālika Za`īmun

Ask them which of them, for that [claim], is responsible

٤١

اَمۡ لَهُمۡ شُرَكَآءُۚۛ فَلۡيَاۡتُوۡا بِشُرَكَآئِهِمۡ اِنۡ كَانُوۡا صٰدِقِيۡنَ

Am Lahum Shurakā'u Falya'tū Bishurakā'ihim 'In Kānū Şādiqīna

Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful

٤٢

يَوۡمَ يُكۡشَفُ عَنۡ سَاقٍ وَّيُدۡعَوۡنَ اِلَي السُّجُوۡدِ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيۡعُوۡنَۙ‏

Yawma Yukshafu `An Sāqin Wa Yud`awna 'Ilá As-Sujūdi Falā Yastaţī`ūna

The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able

٤٣

خَاشِعَةً اَبۡصَارُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٌؕ وَقَدۡ كَانُوۡا يُدۡعَوۡنَ اِلَي السُّجُوۡدِ وَهُمۡ سٰلِمُوۡنَ

Khāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun Wa Qad Kānū Yud`awna 'Ilá As-Sujūdi Wa Hum Sālimūna

Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound

٤٤

فَذَرۡنِيۡ وَمَنۡ يُّكَذِّبُ بِهٰذَا الۡحَدِيۡثِؕ سَنَسۡتَدۡرِجُهُمۡ مِّنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَۙ‏

Fadharnī Wa Man Yukadhibu Bihadhā Al-Ĥadīthi Sanastadrijuhum Min Ĥaythu Lā Ya`lamūna

So leave Me, [O Muhammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies the Qur'an. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know

٤٥

وَاُمۡلِيۡ لَهُمۡؕ اِنَّ كَيۡدِيۡ مَتِيۡنٌ

Wa 'Umlī Lahum 'Inna Kaydī Matīnun

And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm

٤٦

اَمۡ تَسۡـَٔلُهُمۡ اَجۡرًا فَهُمۡ مِّنۡ مَّغۡرَمٍ مُّثۡقَلُوۡنَۚ‏

Am Tas'aluhum 'Ajrāan Fahum Min Maghramin Muthqalūna

Or do you ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down

٤٧

اَمۡ عِنۡدَهُمُ الۡغَيۡبُ فَهُمۡ يَكۡتُبُوۡنَ

Am `Indahumu Al-Ghaybu Fahum Yaktubūna

Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down

٤٨

فَاصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُنۡ كَصَاحِبِ الۡحُوۡتِۘ اِذۡ نَادٰي وَهُوَ مَكۡظُوۡمٌؕ‏

Fāşbir Liĥukmi Rabbika Wa Lā Takun Kaşāĥibi Al-Ĥūti 'Idh Nādá Wa Huwa Makžūmun

Then be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Muhammad], and be not like the companion of the fish when he called out while he was distressed

٤٩

لَوۡلَا٘ اَنۡ تَدٰرَكَهٗ نِعۡمَةٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّهٖ لَنُبِذَ بِالۡعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذۡمُوۡمٌ

Lawlā 'An Tadārakahu Ni`matun Min Rabbihi Lanubidha Bil-`Arā'i Wa Huwa Madhmūmun

If not that a favor from his Lord overtook him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured

٥٠

فَاجۡتَبٰىهُ رَبُّهٗ فَجَعَلَهٗ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِيۡنَ

Fājtabāhu Rabbuhu Faja`alahu Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna

And his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous

٥١

وَاِنۡ يَّكَادُ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا لَيُزۡلِقُوۡنَكَ بِاَبۡصَارِهِمۡ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا الذِّكۡرَ وَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَ اِنَّهٗ لَمَجۡنُوۡنٌۘ‏

Wa 'In Yakādu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Layuzliqūnaka Bi'abşārihim Lammā Sami`ū Adh-Dhikra Wa Yaqūlūna 'Innahu Lamajnūnun

And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad

٥٢

وَمَا هُوَ اِلَّا ذِكۡرٌ لِّلۡعٰلَمِيۡنَࣖ‏

Wa Mā Huwa 'Illā Dhikrun Lil`ālamīna

But it is not except a reminder to the worlds

صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-ʿaẓīm

Allah, the Magnificent, has spoken the truth.
