يٰ٘اَيُّهَا الۡمُدَّثِّرُۙ‏

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Muddaththiru

O you who covers himself [with a garment]

قُمۡ فَاَنۡذِرۡۙ‏

Qum Fa'andhir

Arise and warn

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡۙ‏

Wa Rabbaka Fakabbir

And your Lord glorify

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡۙ‏

Wa Thiyābaka Faţahhir

And your clothing purify

وَالرُّجۡزَ فَاهۡجُرۡۙ‏

Wa Ar-Rujza Fāhjur

And uncleanliness avoid

وَلَا تَمۡنُنۡ تَسۡتَكۡثِرُۙ‏

Wa Lā Tamnun Tastakthiru

And do not confer favor to acquire more

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصۡبِرۡؕ‏

Wa Lirabbika Fāşbir

But for your Lord be patient

فَاِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُوۡرِۙ‏

Fa'idhā Nuqira Fī An-Nāqūri

And when the trumpet is blown

فَذٰلِكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ يَّوۡمٌ عَسِيۡرٌۙ‏

Fadhālika Yawma'idhin Yawmun `Asīrun

That Day will be a difficult day

عَلَي الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيۡرٍ

Alá Al-Kāfirīna Ghayru Yasīrin

For the disbelievers - not easy

ذَرۡنِيۡ وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيۡدًاۙ‏

Dharnī Wa Man Khalaqtu Waĥīdāan

Leave Me with the one I created alone

وَّجَعَلۡتُ لَهٗ مَالًا مَّمۡدُوۡدًاۙ‏

Wa Ja`altu Lahu Mālāan Mamdūdāan

And to whom I granted extensive wealth

وَّبَنِيۡنَ شُهُوۡدًاۙ‏

Wa Banīna Shuhūdāan

And children present [with him]

وَّمَهَّدۡتُّ لَهٗ تَمۡهِيۡدًاۙ‏

Wa Mahhadtu Lahu Tamhīdāan

And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]

ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ اَنۡ اَزِيۡدَۙ‏

Thumma Yaţma`u 'An 'Azīda

Then he desires that I should add more

كَلَّاؕ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ لِاٰيٰتِنَا عَنِيۡدًاؕ‏

Kallā 'Innahu Kāna Li'yātinā `Anīdāan

No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate

سَاُرۡهِقُهٗ صَعُوۡدًاؕ‏

Sa'urhiquhu Şa`ūdāan

I will cover him with arduous torment

اِنَّهٗ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَۙ‏

Innahu Fakkara Wa Qaddara

Indeed, he thought and deliberated

فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَۙ‏

Faqutila Kayfa Qaddara

So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَۙ‏

Thumma Qutila Kayfa Qaddara

Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated

ثُمَّ نَظَرَۙ‏

Thumma Nažara

Then he considered [again]

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَۙ‏

Thumma `Abasa Wa Basara

Then he frowned and scowled

ثُمَّ اَدۡبَرَ وَاسۡتَكۡبَرَۙ‏

Thumma 'Adbara Wa Astakbara

Then he turned back and was arrogant

فَقَالَ اِنۡ هٰذَا٘ اِلَّا سِحۡرٌ يُّؤۡثَرُۙ‏

Faqāla 'In Hādhā 'Illā Siĥrun Yu'utharu

And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]

اِنۡ هٰذَا٘ اِلَّا قَوۡلُ الۡبَشَرِؕ‏

In Hādhā 'Illā Qawlu Al-Bashari

This is not but the word of a human being

سَاُصۡلِيۡهِ سَقَرَ

Sa'uşlīhi Saqara

I will drive him into Saqar

وَمَا٘ اَدۡرٰىكَ مَا سَقَرُؕ‏

Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Saqaru

And what can make you know what is Saqar

لَا تُبۡقِيۡ وَلَا تَذَرُۚ‏

Lā Tubqī Wa Lā Tadharu

It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned]

لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلۡبَشَرِۚ‏

Lawwāĥatun Lilbashari

Blackening the skins

عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَؕ‏

Alayhā Tis`ata `Ashara

Over it are nineteen [angels]

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا٘ اَصۡحٰبَ النَّارِ اِلَّا مَلٰٓئِكَةًࣕ وَّمَا جَعَلۡنَا عِدَّتَهُمۡ اِلَّا فِتۡنَةً لِّلَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡاۙ لِيَسۡتَيۡقِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الۡكِتٰبَ وَيَزۡدَادَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡ٘ا اِيۡمَانًا وَّلَا يَرۡتَابَ الَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الۡكِتٰبَ وَالۡمُؤۡمِنُوۡنَۙ وَلِيَقُوۡلَ الَّذِيۡنَ فِيۡ قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ مَّرَضٌ وَّالۡكٰفِرُوۡنَ مَاذَا٘ اَرَادَ اللّٰهُ بِهٰذَا مَثَلًاؕ كَذٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللّٰهُ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِيۡ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُؕ وَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُوۡدَ رَبِّكَ اِلَّا هُوَؕ وَمَا هِيَ اِلَّا ذِكۡرٰي لِلۡبَشَرِࣖ‏

Wa Mā Ja`alnā 'Aşĥāba An-Nāri 'Illā Malā'ikatan Wa Mā Ja`alnā `Iddatahum 'Illā Fitnatan Lilladhīna Kafarū Liyastayqina Al-Ladhīna 'Ūtū Al-Kitāba Wa Yazdāda Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Īmānāan Wa Lā Yartāba Al-Ladhīna 'Ūtū Al-Kitāba Wa Al-Mu'uminūna Wa Liyaqūla Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun Wa Al-Kāfirūna Mādhā 'Arāda Allāhu Bihadhā Mathalāan Kadhālika Yuđillu Allāhu Man Yashā'u Wa Yahdī Man Yashā'u Wa Mā Ya`lamu Junūda Rabbika 'Illā Huwa Wa Mā Hiya 'Illā Dhikrá Lilbashari

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity

كَلَّا وَالۡقَمَرِۙ‏

Kallā Wa Al-Qamari

No! By the moon

وَالَّيۡلِ اِذۡ اَدۡبَرَۙ‏

Wa Al-Layli 'Idh 'Adbara

And [by] the night when it departs

وَالصُّبۡحِ اِذَا٘ اَسۡفَرَۙ‏

Wa Aş-Şubĥi 'Idhā 'Asfara

And [by] the morning when it brightens

اِنَّهَا لَاِحۡدَي الۡكُبَرِۙ‏

Innahā La'iĥdá Al-Kubari

Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions]

نَذِيۡرًا لِّلۡبَشَرِۙ‏

Nadhīrāan Lilbashari

As a warning to humanity

لِمَنۡ شَآءَ مِنۡكُمۡ اَنۡ يَّتَقَدَّمَ اَوۡ يَتَاَخَّرَؕ‏

Liman Shā'a Minkum 'An Yataqaddama 'Aw Yata'akhkhara

To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind

كُلُّ نَفۡسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ رَهِيۡنَةٌۙ‏

Kullu Nafsin Bimā Kasabat Rahīnahun

Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained

اِلَّا٘ اَصۡحٰبَ الۡيَمِيۡنِؕۛ‏

Illā 'Aşĥāba Al-Yamīni

Except the companions of the right

فِيۡ جَنّٰتٍࣞۛ يَتَسَآءَلُوۡنَۙ‏

Fī Jannātin Yatasā'alūna

[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other

عَنِ الۡمُجۡرِمِيۡنَۙ‏

Ani Al-Mujrimīna

About the criminals

مَا سَلَكَكُمۡ فِيۡ سَقَرَ

Mā Salakakum Fī Saqara

[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar

قَالُوۡا لَمۡ نَكُ مِنَ الۡمُصَلِّيۡنَۙ‏

Qālū Lam Naku Mina Al-Muşallīna

They will say, "We were not of those who prayed

وَلَمۡ نَكُ نُطۡعِمُ الۡمِسۡكِيۡنَۙ‏

Wa Lam Naku Nuţ`imu Al-Miskīna

Nor did we used to feed the poor

وَكُنَّا نَخُوۡضُ مَعَ الۡخَآئِضِيۡنَۙ‏

Wa Kunnā Nakhūđu Ma`a Al-Khā'iđīna

And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it]

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوۡمِ الدِّيۡنِۙ‏

Wa Kunnā Nukadhibu Biyawmi Ad-Dīni

And we used to deny the Day of Recompense

حَتّٰ٘ي اَتٰىنَا الۡيَقِيۡنُؕ‏

Ĥattá 'Atānā Al-Yaqīnu

Until there came to us the certainty

فَمَا تَنۡفَعُهُمۡ شَفَاعَةُ الشّٰفِعِيۡنَؕ‏

Famā Tanfa`uhum Shafā`atu Ash-Shāfi`īna

So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors

فَمَا لَهُمۡ عَنِ التَّذۡكِرَةِ مُعۡرِضِيۡنَۙ‏

Famā Lahum `Ani At-Tadhkirati Mu`riđīna

Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away

كَاَنَّهُمۡ حُمُرٌ مُّسۡتَنۡفِرَةٌۙ‏

Ka'annahum Ĥumurun Mustanfirahun

As if they were alarmed donkeys

فَرَّتۡ مِنۡ قَسۡوَرَةٍؕ‏

Farrat Min Qaswarahin

Fleeing from a lion

بَلۡ يُرِيۡدُ كُلُّ امۡرِئٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ اَنۡ يُّؤۡتٰي صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةًۙ‏

Bal Yurīdu Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yu'utá Şuĥufāan Munasharahan

Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about

كَلَّاؕ بَلۡ لَّا يَخَافُوۡنَ الۡاٰخِرَةَؕ‏

Kallā Bal Lā Yakhāfūna Al-'Ākhiraha

No! But they do not fear the Hereafter

كَلَّا٘ اِنَّهٗ تَذۡكِرَةٌۚ‏

Kallā 'Innahu Tadhkirahun

No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder

فَمَنۡ شَآءَ ذَكَرَهٗؕ‏

Faman Shā'a Dhakarahu

Then whoever wills will remember it

وَمَا يَذۡكُرُوۡنَ اِلَّا٘ اَنۡ يَّشَآءَ اللّٰهُؕ هُوَ اَهۡلُ التَّقۡوٰي وَاَهۡلُ الۡمَغۡفِرَةِࣖ‏

Wa Mā Yadhkurūna 'Illā 'An Yashā'a Allāhu Huwa 'Ahlu At-Taqwá Wa 'Ahlu Al-Maghfirahi

And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness
