١

سَاَلَ سَآئِلٌۭ بِعَذَابٍ وَّاقِعٍۙ‏

Sa'ala Sā'ilun Bi`adhābin Wāqi`in

A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen

٢

لِّلۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ لَيۡسَ لَهٗ دَافِعٌۙ‏

Lilkāfiryna Laysa Lahu Dāfi`un

To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer

٣

مِّنَ اللّٰهِ ذِي الۡمَعَارِجِؕ‏

Mina Allāhi Dhī Al-Ma`āriji

[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent

٤

تَعۡرُجُ الۡمَلٰٓئِكَةُ وَالرُّوۡحُ اِلَيۡهِ فِيۡ يَوۡمٍ كَانَ مِقۡدَارُهٗ خَمۡسِيۡنَ اَلۡفَ سَنَةٍۚ‏

Ta`ruju Al-Malā'ikatu Wa Ar-Rūĥu 'Ilayhi Fī Yawmin Kāna Miqdāruhu Khamsīna 'Alfa Sanahin

The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years

٥

فَاصۡبِرۡ صَبۡرًا جَمِيۡلًا

Fāşbir Şabrāan Jamīlāan

So be patient with gracious patience

٦

اِنَّهُمۡ يَرَوۡنَهٗ بَعِيۡدًاۙ‏

Innahum Yarawnahu Ba`īdāan

Indeed, they see it [as] distant

٧

وَّنَرٰىهُ قَرِيۡبًاؕ‏

Wa Narāhu Qarībāan

But We see it [as] near

٨

يَوۡمَ تَكُوۡنُ السَّمَآءُ كَالۡمُهۡلِۙ‏

Yawma Takūnu As-Samā'u Kālmuhli

On the Day the sky will be like murky oil

٩

وَتَكُوۡنُ الۡجِبَالُ كَالۡعِهۡنِۙ‏

Wa Takūnu Al-Jibālu Kāl`ihni

And the mountains will be like wool

١٠

وَلَا يَسۡـَٔلُ حَمِيۡمٌ حَمِيۡمًاۚۙ‏

Wa Lā Yas'alu Ĥamīmun Ĥamīmāan

And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend

١١

يُّبَصَّرُوۡنَهُمۡؕ يَوَدُّ الۡمُجۡرِمُ لَوۡ يَفۡتَدِيۡ مِنۡ عَذَابِ يَوۡمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيۡهِۙ‏

Yubaşşarūnahum Yawaddu Al-Mujrimu Law Yaftadī Min `Adhābi Yawmi'idhin Bibanīhi

They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children

١٢

وَصَاحِبَتِهٖ وَاَخِيۡهِۙ‏

Wa Şāĥibatihi Wa 'Akhīhi

And his wife and his brother

١٣

وَفَصِيۡلَتِهِ الَّتِيۡ تُـٔۡوِيۡهِۙ‏

Wa Faşīlatihi Allatī Tu'uwyhi

And his nearest kindred who shelter him

١٤

وَمَنۡ فِي الۡاَرۡضِ جَمِيۡعًاۙ ثُمَّ يُنۡجِيۡهِۙ‏

Wa Man Fī Al-'Arđi Jamī`āan Thumma Yunjīhi

And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him

١٥

كَلَّاؕ اِنَّهَا لَظٰيۙ‏

Kallā 'Innahā Lažá

No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell]

١٦

نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوٰيۚۖ‏

Nazzā`atan Lilshawá

A remover of exteriors

١٧

تَدۡعُوۡا مَنۡ اَدۡبَرَ وَتَوَلّٰيۙ‏

Tad`ū Man 'Adbara Wa Tawallá

It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]

١٨

وَجَمَعَ فَاَوۡعٰي

Wa Jama`a Fa'aw`á

And collected [wealth] and hoarded

١٩

اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوۡعًاۙ‏

Inna Al-'Insāna Khuliqa Halū`āan

Indeed, mankind was created anxious

٢٠

اِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوۡعًاۙ‏

Idhā Massahu Ash-Sharru Jazū`āan

When evil touches him, impatient

٢١

وَّاِذَا مَسَّهُ الۡخَيۡرُ مَنُوۡعًاۙ‏

Wa 'Idhā Massahu Al-Khayru Manū`āan

And when good touches him, withholding [of it]

٢٢

اِلَّا الۡمُصَلِّيۡنَۙ‏

Illā Al-Muşallīna

Except the observers of prayer

٢٣

الَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ عَلٰي صَلَاتِهِمۡ دَآئِمُوۡنَۙࣕ‏

Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Dā'imūna

Those who are constant in their prayer

٢٤

وَالَّذِيۡنَ فِيۡ٘ اَمۡوَالِهِمۡ حَقٌّ مَّعۡلُوۡمٌۙࣕ‏

Wa Al-Ladhīna Fī 'Amwālihim Ĥaqqun Ma`lūmun

And those within whose wealth is a known right

٢٥

لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَالۡمَحۡرُوۡمِۙࣕ‏

Lilssā'ili Wa Al-Maĥrūmi

For the petitioner and the deprived

٢٦

وَالَّذِيۡنَ يُصَدِّقُوۡنَ بِيَوۡمِ الدِّيۡنِۙࣕ‏

Wa Al-Ladhīna Yuşaddiqūna Biyawmi Ad-Dīni

And those who believe in the Day of Recompense

٢٧

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمۡ مُّشۡفِقُوۡنَۚ‏

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Min `Adhābi Rabbihim Mushfiqūna

And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord

٢٨

اِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمۡ غَيۡرُ مَاۡمُوۡنٍࣕ‏

Inna `Adhāba Rabbihim Ghayru Ma'mūnin

Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe

٢٩

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوۡجِهِمۡ حٰفِظُوۡنَۙ‏

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Lifurūjihim Ĥāfižūna

And those who guard their private parts

٣٠

اِلَّا عَلٰ٘ي اَزۡوَاجِهِمۡ اَوۡ مَا مَلَكَتۡ اَيۡمَانُهُمۡ فَاِنَّهُمۡ غَيۡرُ مَلُوۡمِيۡنَۚ‏

Illā `Alá 'Azwājihim 'Aw Mā Malakat 'Aymānuhum Fa'innahum Ghayru Malūmīna

Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed

٣١

فَمَنِ ابۡتَغٰي وَرَآءَ ذٰلِكَ فَاُولٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الۡعٰدُوۡنَۚ‏

Famani Abtaghá Warā'a Dhālika Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Al-`Ādūna

But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors

٣٢

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ لِاَمٰنٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رٰعُوۡنَࣕۙ‏

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Li'mānātihim Wa `Ahdihim Rā`ūna

And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive

٣٣

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ بِشَهٰدٰتِهِمۡ قَآئِمُوۡنَۙࣕ‏

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Bishahādātihim Qā'imūna

And those who are in their testimonies upright

٣٤

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ عَلٰي صَلَاتِهِمۡ يُحَافِظُوۡنَؕ‏

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Yuĥāfižūna

And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer

٣٥

اُولٰٓئِكَ فِيۡ جَنّٰتٍ مُّكۡرَمُوۡنَࣖؕ‏

Ūlā'ika Fī Jannātin Mukramūna

They will be in gardens, honored

٣٦

فَمَالِ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا قِبَلَكَ مُهۡطِعِيۡنَۙ‏

Famāli Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Qibalaka Muhţi`īna

So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad]

٣٧

عَنِ الۡيَمِيۡنِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِيۡنَ

Ani Al-Yamīni Wa `Ani Ash-Shimāli `Izīna

[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups

٣٨

اَيَطۡمَعُ كُلُّ امۡرِئٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ اَنۡ يُّدۡخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيۡمٍۙ‏

Ayaţma`u Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yudkhala Jannata Na`īmin

Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure

٣٩

كَلَّاؕ اِنَّا خَلَقۡنٰهُمۡ مِّمَّا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ

Kallā 'Innā Khalaqnāhum Mimmā Ya`lamūna

No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know

٤٠

فَلَا٘ اُقۡسِمُ بِرَبِّ الۡمَشٰرِقِ وَالۡمَغٰرِبِ اِنَّا لَقٰدِرُوۡنَۙ‏

Falā 'Uqsimu Birabbi Al-Mashāriqi Wa Al-Maghāribi 'Innā Laqādirūna

So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able

٤١

عَلٰ٘ي اَنۡ نُّبَدِّلَ خَيۡرًا مِّنۡهُمۡۙ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوۡقِيۡنَ

Alá 'An Nubaddila Khayrāan Minhum Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna

To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone

٤٢

فَذَرۡهُمۡ يَخُوۡضُوۡا وَيَلۡعَبُوۡا حَتّٰي يُلٰقُوۡا يَوۡمَهُمُ الَّذِيۡ يُوۡعَدُوۡنَۙ‏

Fadharhum Yakhūđū Wa Yal`abū Ĥattá Yulāqū Yawmahumu Al-Ladhī Yū`adūna

So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised

٤٣

يَوۡمَ يَخۡرُجُوۡنَ مِنَ الۡاَجۡدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَاَنَّهُمۡ اِلٰي نُصُبٍ يُّوۡفِضُوۡنَۙ‏

Yawma Yakhrujūna Mina Al-'Ajdāthi Sirā`āan Ka'annahum 'Ilá Nuşubin Yūfiđūna

The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening

٤٤

خَاشِعَةً اَبۡصَارُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٌؕ ذٰلِكَ الۡيَوۡمُ الَّذِيۡ كَانُوۡا يُوۡعَدُوۡنَࣖ‏

Khāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun Dhālika Al-Yawmu Al-Ladhī Kānū Yū`adūna

Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised

صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-ʿaẓīm

Allah, the Magnificent, has spoken the truth.
