Lā 'Uqsimu Bihadhā Al-Baladi
I swear by this city, Makkah
Wa 'Anta Ĥillun Bihadhā Al-Baladi
And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city
Wa Wālidin Wa Mā Walada
And [by] the father and that which was born [of him]
Laqad Khalaqnā Al-'Insāna Fī Kabadin
We have certainly created man into hardship
Ayaĥsabu 'An Lan Yaqdira `Alayhi 'Aĥadun
Does he think that never will anyone overcome him
Yaqūlu 'Ahlaktu Mālāan Lubadāan
He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance
Ayaĥsabu 'An Lam Yarahu 'Aĥadun
Does he think that no one has seen him
Alam Naj`al Lahu `Aynayni
Have We not made for him two eyes
Wa Lisānāan Wa Shafatayni
And a tongue and two lips
Wa Hadaynāhu An-Najdayni
And have shown him the two ways
Falā Aqtaĥama Al-`Aqabaha
But he has not broken through the difficult pass
Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Al-`Aqabahu
And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass
Fakku Raqabahin
It is the freeing of a slave
Aw 'Iţ`āmun Fī Yawmin Dhī Masghabahin
Or feeding on a day of severe hunger
Yatīmāan Dhā Maqrabahin
An orphan of near relationship
Aw Miskīnāan Dhā Matrabahin
Or a needy person in misery
Thumma Kāna Mina Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Tawāşaw Biş-Şabri Wa Tawāşaw Bil-Marĥamahi
And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion
Ūlā'ika 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi
Those are the companions of the right
Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi'āyātinā Hum 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi
But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left
Alayhim Nārun Mu'uşadahun
Over them will be fire closed in
Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-ʿaẓīm
Allah, the Magnificent, has spoken the truth.
