١

لَا٘ اُقۡسِمُ بِهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِۙ‏

Lā 'Uqsimu Bihadhā Al-Baladi

I swear by this city, Makkah

٢

وَاَنۡتَ حِلٌّۭ بِهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِۙ‏

Wa 'Anta Ĥillun Bihadhā Al-Baladi

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city

٣

وَوَالِدٍ وَّمَا وَلَدَۙ‏

Wa Wālidin Wa Mā Walada

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him]

٤

لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا الۡاِنۡسَانَ فِيۡ كَبَدٍؕ‏

Laqad Khalaqnā Al-'Insāna Fī Kabadin

We have certainly created man into hardship

٥

اَيَحۡسَبُ اَنۡ لَّنۡ يَّقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ اَحَدٌۘ‏

Ayaĥsabu 'An Lan Yaqdira `Alayhi 'Aĥadun

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him

٦

يَقُوۡلُ اَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًاؕ‏

Yaqūlu 'Ahlaktu Mālāan Lubadāan

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance

٧

اَيَحۡسَبُ اَنۡ لَّمۡ يَرَهٗ٘ اَحَدٌؕ‏

Ayaĥsabu 'An Lam Yarahu 'Aĥadun

Does he think that no one has seen him

٨

اَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلۡ لَّهٗ عَيۡنَيۡنِۙ‏

Alam Naj`al Lahu `Aynayni

Have We not made for him two eyes

٩

وَلِسَانًا وَّشَفَتَيۡنِۙ‏

Wa Lisānāan Wa Shafatayni

And a tongue and two lips

١٠

وَهَدَيۡنٰهُ النَّجۡدَيۡنِۚ‏

Wa Hadaynāhu An-Najdayni

And have shown him the two ways

١١

فَلَا اقۡتَحَمَ الۡعَقَبَةَؗۖ‏

Falā Aqtaĥama Al-`Aqabaha

But he has not broken through the difficult pass

١٢

وَمَا٘ اَدۡرٰىكَ مَا الۡعَقَبَةُؕ‏

Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Al-`Aqabahu

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass

١٣

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍۙ‏

Fakku Raqabahin

It is the freeing of a slave

١٤

اَوۡ اِطۡعٰمٌ فِيۡ يَوۡمٍ ذِيۡ مَسۡغَبَةٍۙ‏

Aw 'Iţ`āmun Fī Yawmin Dhī Masghabahin

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

١٥

يَّتِيۡمًا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍۙ‏

Yatīmāan Dhā Maqrabahin

An orphan of near relationship

١٦

اَوۡ مِسۡكِيۡنًا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٍؕ‏

Aw Miskīnāan Dhā Matrabahin

Or a needy person in misery

١٧

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَتَوَاصَوۡا بِالصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡا بِالۡمَرۡحَمَةِؕ‏

Thumma Kāna Mina Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Tawāşaw Biş-Şabri Wa Tawāşaw Bil-Marĥamahi

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion

١٨

اُولٰٓئِكَ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡمَيۡمَنَةِؕ‏

Ūlā'ika 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi

Those are the companions of the right

١٩

وَالَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا هُمۡ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِؕ‏

Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi'āyātinā Hum 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left

٢٠

عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٌ مُّؤۡصَدَةٌࣖ‏

Alayhim Nārun Mu'uşadahun

Over them will be fire closed in

صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-ʿaẓīm

Allah, the Magnificent, has spoken the truth.
