١

اِقۡرَاۡ بِاسۡمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِيۡ خَلَقَۚ‏

Aqra' Biāsmi Rabbika Al-Ladhī Khalaqa

Recite in the name of your Lord who created

٢

خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍۚ‏

Khalaqa Al-'Insāna Min `Alaqin

Created man from a clinging substance

٣

اِقۡرَاۡ وَرَبُّكَ الۡاَكۡرَمُۙ‏

Aqra' Wa Rabbuka Al-'Akramu

Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous

٤

الَّذِيۡ عَلَّمَ بِالۡقَلَمِۙ‏

Al-Ladhī `Allama Bil-Qalami

Who taught by the pen

٥

عَلَّمَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡؕ‏

Allama Al-'Insāna Mā Lam Ya`lam

Taught man that which he knew not

٦

كَلَّا٘ اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ لَيَطۡغٰ٘يۙ‏

Kallā 'Inna Al-'Insāna Layaţghá

No! [But] indeed, man transgresses

٧

اَنۡ رَّاٰهُ اسۡتَغۡنٰيؕ‏

An Ra'āhu Astaghná

Because he sees himself self-sufficient

٨

اِنَّ اِلٰي رَبِّكَ الرُّجۡعٰيؕ‏

Inna 'Ilá Rabbika Ar-Ruj`á

Indeed, to your Lord is the return

٩

اَرَءَيۡتَ الَّذِيۡ يَنۡهٰيۙ‏

Ara'ayta Al-Ladhī Yanhá

Have you seen the one who forbids

١٠

عَبۡدًا اِذَا صَلّٰيؕ‏

Abdāan 'Idhā Şallá

A servant when he prays

١١

اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَانَ عَلَي الۡهُدٰ٘يۙ‏

Ara'ayta 'In Kāna `Alá Al-Hudá

Have you seen if he is upon guidance

١٢

اَوۡ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقۡوٰيؕ‏

Aw 'Amara Bit-Taqwá

Or enjoins righteousness

١٣

اَرَءَيۡتَ اِنۡ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰيؕ‏

Ara'ayta 'In Kadhaba Wa Tawallá

Have you seen if he denies and turns away

١٤

اَلَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَرٰيؕ‏

Alam Ya`lam Bi'anna Allāha Yará

Does he not know that Allah sees

١٥

كَلَّا لَئِنۡ لَّمۡ يَنۡتَهِ ࣢ۙ لَنَسۡفَعًاۭ بِالنَّاصِيَةِۙ‏

Kallā La'in Lam Yantahi Lanasfa`ā Bin-Nāşiyahi

No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock

١٦

نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۚ‏

Nāşiyatin Kādhibatin Khāţi'ahin

A lying, sinning forelock

١٧

فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهٗۙ‏

Falyad`u Nādiyah

Then let him call his associates

١٨

سَنَدۡعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَۙ‏

Sanad`u Az-Zabāniyaha

We will call the angels of Hell

١٩

كَلَّاؕ لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَاسۡجُدۡ وَاقۡتَرِبۡࣛࣖ‏

Kallā Lā Tuţi`hu Wa Asjud Wāqtarib

No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]

صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-ʿaẓīm

Allah, the Magnificent, has spoken the truth.
