حٰمٓۚۛ‏

Ĥā-Mīm

Ha, Meem

٢

وَالۡكِتٰبِ الۡمُبِيۡنِۙۛ‏

Wa Al-Kitābi Al-Mubīni

By the clear Book

٣

اِنَّا٘ اَنۡزَلۡنٰهُ فِيۡ لَيۡلَةٍ مُّبٰرَكَةٍ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُنۡذِرِيۡنَ

Innā 'Anzalnāhu Fī Laylatin Mubārakatin 'Innā Kunnā Mundhirīna

Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]

٤

فِيۡهَا يُفۡرَقُ كُلُّ اَمۡرٍ حَكِيۡمٍۙ‏

Fīhā Yufraqu Kullu 'Amrin Ĥakīmin

On that night is made distinct every precise matter

٥

اَمۡرًا مِّنۡ عِنۡدِنَاؕ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُرۡسِلِيۡنَۚ‏

Amrāan Min `Indinā 'Innā Kunnā Mursilīna

[Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger]

٦

رَحۡمَةً مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ السَّمِيۡعُ الۡعَلِيۡمُۙ‏

Raĥmatan Min Rabbika 'Innahu Huwa As-Samī`u Al-`Alīmu

As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing

٧

رَبِّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَاۘ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ مُّوۡقِنِيۡنَ

Rabbi As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā 'In Kuntum Mūqinīna

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain

٨

لَا٘ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ يُحۡيٖ وَيُمِيۡتُؕ رَبُّكُمۡ وَرَبُّ اٰبَآئِكُمُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ

Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa Yuĥyī Wa Yumītu Rabbukum Wa Rabbu 'Ābā'ikumu Al-'Awwalīna

There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers

٩

بَلۡ هُمۡ فِيۡ شَكٍّ يَّلۡعَبُوۡنَ

Bal Hum Fī Shakkin Yal`abūna

But they are in doubt, amusing themselves

١٠

فَارۡتَقِبۡ يَوۡمَ تَاۡتِي السَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِيۡنٍۙ‏

Fārtaqib Yawma Ta'tī As-Samā'u Bidukhānin Mubīnin

Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke

١١

يَّغۡشَي النَّاسَؕ هٰذَا عَذَابٌ اَلِيۡمٌ

Yaghshá An-Nāsa Hādhā `Adhābun 'Alīmun

Covering the people; this is a painful torment

١٢

رَبَّنَا اكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا الۡعَذَابَ اِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ

Rabbanā Akshif `Annā Al-`Adhāba 'Innā Mu'uminūna

[They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers

١٣

اَنّٰي لَهُمُ الذِّكۡرٰي وَقَدۡ جَآءَهُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ مُّبِيۡنٌۙ‏

Anná Lahumu Adh-Dhikrá Wa Qad Jā'ahum Rasūlun Mubīnun

How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger

١٤

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوۡا عَنۡهُ وَقَالُوۡا مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجۡنُوۡنٌۘ‏

Thumma Tawallaw `Anhu Wa Qālū Mu`allamun Majnūnun

Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman

١٥

اِنَّا كَاشِفُوا الۡعَذَابِ قَلِيۡلًا اِنَّكُمۡ عَآئِدُوۡنَۘ‏

Innā Kāshifū Al-`Adhābi Qalīlāan 'Innakum `Ā'idūna

Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]

١٦

يَوۡمَ نَبۡطِشُ الۡبَطۡشَةَ الۡكُبۡرٰيۚ اِنَّا مُنۡتَقِمُوۡنَ

Yawma Nabţishu Al-Baţshata Al-Kubrá 'Innā Muntaqimūna

The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution

١٧

وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَجَآءَهُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ كَرِيۡمٌۙ‏

Wa Laqad Fatannā Qablahum Qawma Fir`awna Wa Jā'ahum Rasūlun Karīmun

And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger

١٨

اَنۡ اَدُّوۡ٘ا اِلَيَّ عِبَادَ اللّٰهِؕ اِنِّيۡ لَكُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ اَمِيۡنٌۙ‏

An 'Addū 'Ilayya `Ibāda Allāhi 'Innī Lakum Rasūlun 'Amīnun

[Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger

١٩

وَّاَنۡ لَّا تَعۡلُوۡا عَلَي اللّٰهِؕ اِنِّيۡ٘ اٰتِيۡكُمۡ بِسُلۡطٰنٍ مُّبِيۡنٍۚ‏

Wa 'An Lā Ta`lū `Alá Allāhi 'Innī 'Ātīkum Bisulţānin Mubīnin

And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority

٢٠

وَاِنِّيۡ عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّيۡ وَرَبِّكُمۡ اَنۡ تَرۡجُمُوۡنِۚ‏

Wa 'Innī `Udhtu Birabbī Wa Rabbikum 'An Tarjumūni

And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me

٢١

وَاِنۡ لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُوۡا لِيۡ فَاعۡتَزِلُوۡنِ

Wa 'In Lam Tu'uminū Lī Fā`tazilūni

But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone

٢٢

فَدَعَا رَبَّهٗ٘ اَنَّ هٰ٘ؤُلَآءِ قَوۡمٌ مُّجۡرِمُوۡنَ

Fada`ā Rabbahu 'Anna Hā'uulā' Qawmun Mujrimūna

And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people

٢٣

فَاَسۡرِ بِعِبَادِيۡ لَيۡلًا اِنَّكُمۡ مُّتَّبَعُوۡنَۙ‏

Fa'asri Bi`ibādī Laylāan 'Innakum Muttaba`ūna

[Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued

٢٤

وَاتۡرُكِ الۡبَحۡرَ رَهۡوًاؕ اِنَّهُمۡ جُنۡدٌ مُّغۡرَقُوۡنَ

Wa Atruki Al-Baĥra Rahwan 'Innahum Jundun Mughraqūna

And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned

٢٥

كَمۡ تَرَكُوۡا مِنۡ جَنّٰتٍ وَّعُيُوۡنٍۙ‏

Kam Tarakū Min Jannātin Wa `Uyūnin

How much they left behind of gardens and springs

٢٦

وَّزُرُوۡعٍ وَّمَقَامٍ كَرِيۡمٍۙ‏

Wa Zurū`in Wa Maqāmin Karīmin

And crops and noble sites

٢٧

وَّنَعۡمَةٍ كَانُوۡا فِيۡهَا فٰكِهِيۡنَۙ‏

Wa Na`matin Kānū Fīhā Fākihīna

And comfort wherein they were amused

٢٨

كَذٰلِكَࣞ وَاَوۡرَثۡنٰهَا قَوۡمًا اٰخَرِيۡنَ

Kadhālika Wa 'Awrathnāhā Qawmāan 'Ākharīna

Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people

٢٩

فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ السَّمَآءُ وَالۡاَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُوۡا مُنۡظَرِيۡنَࣖ‏

Famā Bakat `Alayhimu As-Samā'u Wa Al-'Arđu Wa Mā Kānū Munžarīna

And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved

٣٠

وَلَقَدۡ نَجَّيۡنَا بَنِيۡ٘ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ مِنَ الۡعَذَابِ الۡمُهِيۡنِۙ‏

Wa Laqad Najjaynā Banī 'Isrā'īla Mina Al-`Adhābi Al-Muhīni

And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment

٣١

مِنۡ فِرۡعَوۡنَؕ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ الۡمُسۡرِفِيۡنَ

Min Fir`awna 'Innahu Kāna `Ālīāan Mina Al-Musrifīna

From Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors

٣٢

وَلَقَدِ اخۡتَرۡنٰهُمۡ عَلٰي عِلۡمٍ عَلَي الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَۚ‏

Wa Laqadi Akhtarnāhum `Alá `Ilmin `Alá Al-`Ālamīna

And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds

٣٣

وَاٰتَيۡنٰهُمۡ مِّنَ الۡاٰيٰتِ مَا فِيۡهِ بَلٰٓؤٌا مُّبِيۡنٌ

Wa 'Ātaynāhum Mina Al-'Āyāti Mā Fīhi Balā'un Mubīnun

And We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial

٣٤

اِنَّ هٰ٘ؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَۙ‏

Inna Hā'uulā' Layaqūlūna

Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying

٣٥

اِنۡ هِيَ اِلَّا مَوۡتَتُنَا الۡاُوۡلٰي وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُنۡشَرِيۡنَ

In Hiya 'Illā Mawtatunā Al-'Ūlá Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimunsharīna

There is not but our first death, and we will not be resurrected

٣٦

فَاۡتُوۡا بِاٰبَآئِنَا٘ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ صٰدِقِيۡنَ

Fa'tū Bi'ābā'inā 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna

Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful

٣٧

اَهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ اَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعٍۙ وَّالَّذِيۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِهِمۡؕ اَهۡلَكۡنٰهُمۡؗ اِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۡا مُجۡرِمِيۡنَ

Ahum Khayrun 'Am Qawmu Tubba`in Wa Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim 'Ahlaknāhum 'Innahum Kānū Mujrimīna

Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals

٣٨

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لٰعِبِيۡنَ

Wa Mā Khalaqnā As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđa Wa Mā Baynahumā Lā`ibīna

And We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play

٣٩

مَا خَلَقۡنٰهُمَا٘ اِلَّا بِالۡحَقِّ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ

Mā Khalaqnāhumā 'Illā Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Lakinna 'Aktharahum Lā Ya`lamūna

We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know

٤٠

اِنَّ يَوۡمَ الۡفَصۡلِ مِيۡقَاتُهُمۡ اَجۡمَعِيۡنَۙ‏

Inna Yawma Al-Faşli Mīqātuhum 'Ajma`īna

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all

٤١

يَوۡمَ لَا يُغۡنِيۡ مَوۡلًي عَنۡ مَّوۡلًي شَيۡـًٔا وَّلَا هُمۡ يُنۡصَرُوۡنَۙ‏

Yawma Lā Yughnī Mawláan `An Mawláan Shay'āan Wa Lā Hum Yunşarūna

The Day when no relation will avail a relation at all, nor will they be helped

٤٢

اِلَّا مَنۡ رَّحِمَ اللّٰهُؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الرَّحِيۡمُࣖ‏

Illā Man Raĥima Allāhu 'Innahu Huwa Al-`Azīzu Ar-Raĥīmu

Except those [believers] on whom Allah has mercy. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful

٤٣

اِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّوۡمِۙ‏

Inna Shajarata Az-Zaqqūmi

Indeed, the tree of zaqqum

٤٤

طَعَامُ الۡاَثِيۡمِۚۛۖ‏

Ţa`āmu Al-'Athīmi

Is food for the sinful

٤٥

كَالۡمُهۡلِۚۛ يَغۡلِيۡ فِي الۡبُطُوۡنِۙ‏

Kālmuhli Yaghlī Fī Al-Buţūni

Like murky oil, it boils within bellies

٤٦

كَغَلۡيِ الۡحَمِيۡمِ

Kaghalyi Al-Ĥamīmi

Like the boiling of scalding water

٤٧

خُذُوۡهُ فَاعۡتِلُوۡهُ اِلٰي سَوَآءِ الۡجَحِيۡمِۙ‏

Khudhūhu Fā`tilūhu 'Ilá Sawā'i Al-Jaĥīmi

[It will be commanded], "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire

٤٨

ثُمَّ صُبُّوۡا فَوۡقَ رَاۡسِهٖ مِنۡ عَذَابِ الۡحَمِيۡمِؕ‏

Thumma Şubbū Fawqa Ra'sihi Min `Adhābi Al-Ĥamīmi

Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water

٤٩

ذُقۡۚۖ اِنَّكَ اَنۡتَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡكَرِيۡمُ

Dhuq 'Innaka 'Anta Al-`Azīzu Al-Karīmu

[It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble

٥٠

اِنَّ هٰذَا مَا كُنۡتُمۡ بِهٖ تَمۡتَرُوۡنَ

Inna Hādhā Mā Kuntum Bihi Tamtarūna

Indeed, this is what you used to dispute

٥١

اِنَّ الۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ فِيۡ مَقَامٍ اَمِيۡنٍۙ‏

Inna Al-Muttaqīna Fī Maqāmin 'Amīnin

Indeed, the righteous will be in a secure place

٥٢

فِيۡ جَنّٰتٍ وَّعُيُوۡنٍۚۙ‏

Fī Jannātin Wa `Uyūnin

Within gardens and springs

٥٣

يَّلۡبَسُوۡنَ مِنۡ سُنۡدُسٍ وَّاِسۡتَبۡرَقٍ مُّتَقٰبِلِيۡنَۚۙ‏

Yalbasūna Min Sundusin Wa 'Istabraqin Mutaqābilīna

Wearing [garments of] fine silk and brocade, facing each other

٥٤

كَذٰلِكَࣞ وَزَوَّجۡنٰهُمۡ بِحُوۡرٍ عِيۡنٍؕ‏

Kadhālika Wa Zawwajnāhum Biĥūrin `Īnin

Thus. And We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes

٥٥

يَدۡعُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا بِكُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ اٰمِنِيۡنَۙ‏

Yad`ūna Fīhā Bikulli Fākihatin 'Āminīna

They will call therein for every [kind of] fruit - safe and secure

٥٦

لَا يَذُوۡقُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا الۡمَوۡتَ اِلَّا الۡمَوۡتَةَ الۡاُوۡلٰيۚ وَوَقٰىهُمۡ عَذَابَ الۡجَحِيۡمِۙ‏

Lā Yadhūqūna Fīhā Al-Mawta 'Illā Al-Mawtata Al-'Ūlá Wa Waqāhum `Adhāba Al-Jaĥīmi

They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of Hellfire

٥٧

فَضۡلًا مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَؕ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الۡفَوۡزُ الۡعَظِيۡمُ

Fađlāan Min Rabbika Dhālika Huwa Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu

As bounty from your Lord. That is what is the great attainment

٥٨

فَاِنَّمَا يَسَّرۡنٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَذَكَّرُوۡنَ

Fa'innamā Yassarnāhu Bilisānika La`allahum Yatadhakkarūna

And indeed, We have eased the Qur'an in your tongue that they might be reminded

٥٩

فَارۡتَقِبۡ اِنَّهُمۡ مُّرۡتَقِبُوۡنَࣖ‏

Fārtaqib 'Innahum Murtaqibūna

So watch, [O Muhammad]; indeed, they are watching [for your end]

صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-ʿaẓīm

Allah, the Magnificent, has spoken the truth.

ʿAbd al-Basit
